Engadin diversity: tradition, culture & sport

Tradition

In the Engadin, customs that have accompanied the valley for centuries are cultivated. Chalandamarz is particularly impressive: children parade through the streets singing, accompanied by the sound of cowbells and the cracking of whips – a powerful symbol of spring. The Schlitteda is also festive, when couples in traditional costume ride through St. Moritz on magnificently decorated sledges.

These living traditions provide an insight into the soul of the region. Today, they stand side by side with international formats such as the Engadin Festival or the St. Moritz Art Film Festival, which elegantly combine the alpine backdrop and contemporary culture.

Sports events

The landscape around St. Moritz is the stage for sporting events that are unique in the world. In addition to international winter sports championships, there are events that can almost only be experienced here. When Lake St. Moritz freezes over in winter, it becomes the backdrop for great spectacles: at the White Turf, thoroughbreds gallop across the ice, at The I.C.E., classic cars shine on a mirror-smooth surface – accompanied by champagne served by waiters on ice skates.

Delicatessen & Culinary

Cuisine in St. Moritz is characterized by short routes and long stories. Regional ingredients meet international influences, Alpine classics are reinterpreted, Mediterranean and Asian nuances are elegantly integrated.

Our restaurants also reflect this diversity: CORVATSCH focuses on Swiss specialties, MADE IN ASIA brings flavors from the Far East to the Engadin, and CARUSO offers Italian classics and one of the largest pizza selections in the region.

Museums & Galleries

St. Moritz has always been a retreat for great thinkers and artists. Friedrich Nietzsche, Hermann Hesse, Thomas Mann, Rainer Maria Rilke and Giovanni Segantini sought inspiration here – a tradition that still shapes cultural life today. Museums preserve this heritage and tell world-class stories, while galleries pick up on international trends and set new impulses.

The density of art galleries is unique in the Alps. In addition to renowned collections and works by classical masters, guests can also discover up-and-coming talents here. A special highlight is the Design Gallery in the Serletta parking garage, where large-format poster and photo exhibitions elegantly break up everyday life and turn art into an experience.
